Wireless Internet Cards
Wireless Internet cards are a component of modern computers that allow for wireless signals to be sent and received over a wireless network. Most modern computers contain wireless Internet cards as standard due to the considerable advantages offered by the use of a wireless Internet network. While range concerns can be worrying for those trying to establish a network in a building containing equipment that may interfere with signals from or to wireless Internet cards, the infrastructure required to address this will usually be much less difficult to implement that that for a large wired network.
Wireless Internet cards for computers will often be implemented as a standard part of any inbuilt networking capabilities that the computer may have. For older computers, though, wireless Internet cards can easily be installed using a PCI bus on a motherboard, a PC card for a laptop, or via a USB connectable device. Some computers will include additional controls for wireless networks, so that they may be disabled easily in case of interference or suspected malicious activity.
Wireless Internet cards can sometimes suffer from range issues. There are several common reasons why the range of wireless Internet cards may seemingly be diminished. Large electronic devices as well as metal plumbing or framework in the walls of a building may interfere with the signals between wireless Internet cards and wireless Internet modems. The antennae of wireless Internet cards can also be an issue. Internal antennae for wireless Internet cards can sometimes be ineffective in picking up a signal, while external antennae can be unwieldy. Worst of all is when an external antennae for wireless Internet cards is bulky enough to be a nuisance but too short to be effective.
If you have security concerns about the use of wireless Internet cards, you needn't worry. For one, the fairly small signal range of wireless Internet cards and wireless Internet modems is something of a safeguard. Secondly, wireless Internet cards would not be in as widespread use as they currently are if there were major security issues. There are much greater security concerns in using the Internet at all than there are in accessing the Internet using wireless Internet cards.
